Michaud imposes two year sentence for felony meth possession

August 10, 2004

On Aug. 10, A plea agreement between Boundary County Prosecutor Jack Douglas and defense attorney Savi Grewal, Sandpoint, netted Craig Kreiger, 40, two years in prison for felony possession of methamphetamine. This sentence will run concurrently with a recent three year prison sentence in Bonner County.

Retired District Court Judge James Michaud imposed the sentence. Without the plea agreement, Kreiger could have faced up to seven years in prison and as much as $15,000 in fines on this charge.

According to Douglas, he agreed to the plea because he believes the two year sentence will offer the correctional system an opportunity to help Kreiger overcome his addiction to methamphetamine. Douglas added that he hopes the penitentiary will place Kreiger in the therapeutic community where he can receive the psychological and medical help he needs. The second charge of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.
