Boundary County Commissioners will hold a public hearing in the extension office meeting room at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, to consider an ordinance that will be the first important step in a series to bring a county-wide addressing system to Boundary County.
Currently, the county has no addressing system in place, making it difficult for local residents to get services, especially telephone, and making it extremely difficult for those facing emergency situations to tell 911 dispatchers how to get help to the scene.
Work on adopting such a system has been underway for years, and a lot of the obstacles that once stood in the way have now been cleared, paving the way for the adoption of an ordinance to lay the ground rules for naming and numbering county roads, streets and private drives.
As proposed, the ordinance calls for empanelling a five-member committee to choose those names, but it leaves the method up to that committee.
If adopted, the ordinance would establish definitions, establish the Boundary County Street Name Committee and set forth a system for the designation of street and private road names and address numbering and signage, changes in street names for public and private roads, establishing jurisdictions and establishing a variance and appeal procedure and fees.
The full text of the proposed ordinance is on file in the Planning and Zoning Department at the Boundary County Courthouse, and is available for public review. Information is also available by calling (208) 267-7212 or by visiting the Boundary County web site at http://www.boundary-idaho.com/legals, where the text of the proposal has been published.
Written public comment will be accepted at the planning office through June 14.
