Two bound over on drug charges

March 30, 2004

A 33-year-old Sandpoint man and a 28-year-old Bonners Ferry woman were ordered to stand arraignment on multiple drug charges Thursday by Judge Justin Julian.

Larry Beeton and Susanna “Anna” Yeoumans were arrested at Yeoumans Bonners Ferry apartment March 12 after a welfare check was conducted at the request of health and welfare. A third man, Jon Digiulio, 42, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Bonner County. Prior to entering the home, officers also obtained two outstanding Bonner County felony warrants for Beeton, Yeoumans boyfriend, who was believed to be at the apartment as his vehicle was parked outside.

When Yeoumans was questioned, however, she insisted that no one but she and her four children were in the apartment. When entering the bedroom where the children were, Bonners Ferry Police Officer Don Parlow became suspicious and started checking closets, and found Beeton crouched inside the children’s closet.

“What disturbs me most about Yeoumans providing false information,” Parlow wrote in his report, “was that I was forced to enter the childrens’ room and order a felon out of their closet and take him into custody in their presence.”

A search of the apartment and Beeton’s vehicle turned up a quantity of methamphetamines and marijuana and an assortment of drug paraphernalia. During the course of the investigation, officers also discovered that on the day before the arrests, Yeoumans allegedly forged the title of her friend’s pickup and attempted to convert ownership.

Yeoumans was charged with possession of a controlled substance and forgery, both felonies, and possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false information to a peace officer and four counts of injury to children, all misdemeanors.

After the search, the children were given to the custody of Yeoumans’ mother.

Beeton was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Judge Julian found probable cause on both counts and set arraignment at 9 a.m. April 6 before Judge James Michaud. He remains jailed on $100,000 bond.

Because of a possible conflict as Yeoumans is a distant relation, Boundary County Prosecutor Jack Douglas utilized a long-standing reciprocal agreement between North Idaho prosecutors and the case was assigned to Kootenai County Prosecutor Bill Douglas (no relation).

At Thursday’s hearing, Julian found probable cause to bind Yeoumans over on all but the forgery charge, which was dismissed when the victim recanted and refused to file charges. She too will be arraigned at 9 a.m. April 6 before Judge Michaud. She remains in jail on $10,000 bond.

If convicted on the possession charges, both Beeton and Yeoumans face up to seven years in prison and fines of up to $150,000.
